Rita's Entry - Monday Jan 16, 1911
Practiced hard before going to lesson. Took it at 11:30. Got along beautifully. After lunch wrote letters. Went shopping on Clark St. with Mrs. S. She is nearly all in with quinsy. After dinner wrote, read, laughed and acted like phools. Letter from mother.
IN RITA'S DAY: Shopping was a major event (just like today). Above is a picture of Clark Street when Rita was there. In the back of her journal, Rita keeps a budget. Some of the things she bought (and the prices) are: camphor .10, pumps (shoes) 1.45, violin music .50, apples .10, coat 10.00, violin bow 20.00.
Judy's Entry - Sunday Jan 16, 2011
It was pretty cold today in church. Spent some time practicing the piano. I think reading how much Rita practiced made me feel a bit guilty. Worked on a pencil drawing of Gary Cooper. Watched the NY Jets win their playoff game.
TODAY: Rita's biggest purchase in Chicago was a new bow for her violin. Today that bow may be worth thousands, but unfortunately, neither my mother or I have any of her bows or violins, but my brother in Texas may have one. On Antiques Roadshow, I have seen violins and bows appraised for unbelievable prices.
