Mrs. S and I went down town at 9:30. Made a tour of all the shops. Enjoyed it immensely. Got fiddle. Came home and practiced hard. After dinner - music. Early to bed.
IN RITA'S DAY: A day of shopping was just as much fun for ladies as it is today, and the style of 1911 was filled with lace. Rita got her violin fixed for 50 cents and purchased a lace jabot for 25 cents. A jabot is a sort of neckwear that is used to enhance a blouse. According to a book of the time period "[This season] a jabot will be seen on the V cut corsage [bodice] made of hemstitiched silk or batiste...No lace collar can possibly come amiss. A season of lace this most undoubtedly is, and every kind is used from white, ecru and black."

Judy's Entry: Monday Jan 24, 2011
Monday things: planning menus for week, laundry, grocery shopping. Mom and I made chocolate chip cookies using the new KitchenAid Stand Mixer. Great! Practiced piano. Did some online shopping. Not as much fun as going downtown Chicago.
TODAY: As mentioned, lots of shopping done online. Big change from 1911, but lace is said to be big for the summer and spring of 2011. So something old is new again. Of course, it is used a bit differently (see below)
