Rita's Entry - Friday Jan 20, 1911
Home all day. Practiced four hours! Nearly dead. 3 and 3/4 hours is the limit hereafter. Got harmony. Played solitaire a little with Fran and retired early.
IN RITA'S DAY: Solitaire was played in many variations, including two and three person games. Other games being played include the truly American game of bridge, which evolved from the game of Whist around 1895, pinochle which evolved from the French game Bezique around 1900, and a game called "Oh hell."
Judy's Entry - Thursday Jan 20, 2011
Got the oil burner serviced and hope the heating will be more efficient. We have been using a lot of fuel oil and another cold spell and another snow storm are coming tonight. Mah Jongg was cancelled today. Went to the mall and got ski pants while my mother got her hair done.
TODAY: Solitaire is still the number one card game in the world. Now it is played in many versions on the computer. Most computers come with games like Spider Solitaire and Free Cell already loaded on them. One game that has taken off is Texas Hold'em, a form of poker that is played in casinos and online. And young people play video games like "Grand Theft Auto."
